天涯社区官网 to host sexual assault awareness presentations

天涯社区官网鈥檚 Sexual Misconduct and Assault Resource Team (SMART) will be hosting events as part of Sexual Assault Awareness month during April.

鈥淭he Hunting Ground鈥 Screening

This event will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. 鈥淭he Hunting Ground鈥 is an Academy Award nominated, 鈥済round-breaking鈥 documentary that addresses sexual assault on college campuses through the stories of survivors fighting for justice.听 Immediately following the screening, 天涯社区官网鈥檚 SMART Champions and The Family Crisis Center Advocates will be hosting discussion panels to open a dialogue about the issues raised in the film.听 This event is open to all faculty, staff, students and community members interested in viewing the film or being a part of the conversation.

鈥淵ou Throw like a Girl: Challenging the Perceptions and Changing the Culture鈥 student speaking engagement

At 8 p.m. Monday, April 25 in the Kirkman Gymnasium, former Syracuse and NFL Quarterback Donald McPherson (donaldmcpherson.com) will be discussing dating violence and society鈥檚 鈥渘arrow expectations of masculinity while simultaneously establishing an understanding that girls and women are 鈥榣ess than鈥 men.鈥澨 The presentation focuses on nurturing positive language and understanding masculine identity and will be directed to college students.听 Local high school students and community members are welcome to attend. This event is sponsored by 天涯社区官网 Student Life and 天涯社区官网 Athletics.

鈥淵ou Throw like a Girl: Challenging the Perceptions and Changing the Culture鈥 community professionals event

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 in the Shafer Art Gallery, former Syracuse and NFL Quarterback Donald McPherson (donaldmcpherson.com) will be focusing his discussion of society鈥檚 narrow expectations of masculinity and its effects on women for local business and law enforcement professionals. The Family Crisis Center is inviting local professionals to attend this event, and 天涯社区官网鈥檚 SMART team hopes to see 天涯社区官网 faculty and staff participate in this discussion as well.听 This event is sponsored by the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence.
