ΜμΡΔΙηΗψΉΩΝψβs music department will present βThe Addams Family: A New Musical Comedyβ at 7:30 p.m. March 4 and 5 and at 2 p.m. March 6 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
The show is being directed by ΜμΡΔΙηΗψΉΩΝψβs Director of Chorale Activities Vern Fryberger. He has participated in 47 musicals over a span of 35 years.
According to Fryberger, the musical βfeatures an original story, and itβs every fatherβs nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that werenβt upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something heβs never done before β keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesdayβs βnormalβ boyfriend and his parents.β
Holly Lueth of Hoisington plays the Dead Queen in the production and said the production is enjoyable for all ages.
βIf you grew up in in my era and you watched the original βAddams Familyβ it was such a neat show back then and so it brings back a lot of memories, itβs comfortable and itβs something we grew up with,β she said. βFor the younger kids, itβs just a really neat show. The staging, the lighting, the tech parts are great and the scenery is amazing. Also, for any kid that would be interested in going into theater, participating in the music or being in the pit itβs an opportunity to see what thatβs like. Itβs just pure enjoyment. Itβs such a fun musical.β
Lueth said the vibe between the cast, crew and directors has made it a fun experience for her.
βTheyβre all great,β she said. βVern is a technician when it comes to the music and if he hears something weβre not doing right he revisits it and he has a really good sense of putting the principles with the chorus because we need them and they need us. Weβre a unit. Sharon Sturgis (Stage Director and Choreographer) is very light and upbeat and it makes working for them a pleasure.β
Tasha Deiser of Salina said itβs been interesting working on such an iconic show.
βItβs a remake of such a classic,β she said. βItβs interesting to see it all in color and to see how the music and dancing all mix together.β
Deiser plays Wednesday Addams who is known for her famous stone-cold stare.
βItβs hard to keep a straight face all the time,β she said.Μύ βItβs really difficult.β
