The ΜμΡΔΙηΗψΉΩΝψ Instrumental Music Department will present a tribute to popular music in the United States spanning several decades titled βThe Great American Songbook,β at 7:30 p.m. April 22 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Free general admission tickets are available at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The experience will feature the Prairie Winds Concert Band, ΜμΡΔΙηΗψΉΩΝψ Jazz Ensemble, and ΜμΡΔΙηΗψΉΩΝψβs rock band, βThe Riff.β
Director of Instrumental Activities Dr. Luis Palacios encourages music-lovers from every generation to come and enjoy the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century.
βThis is iconic music,β he said.Μύ βTheyβre truly songs that have stood the test of time in their life and legacy. Many of the selections were published during the βGolden Ageβ of this genre including those popular and enduring tunes that were created for Broadway musical theatre and Hollywood films.β
