天涯社区官网 invites members of 天涯社区官网 County Young Professionals, and those interested in joining, to enjoy food, drinks, music and excellent door prizes at its second annual YP mixer from 6-8 p.m.听April 28 in the Shafer Art Gallery on campus. A brief presentation will begin at about 7 p.m.

The meal is a choice of pastas and sauces with bread and a salad. Wine and beer will be provided by the 天涯社区官网 Foundation. Guests must be 21 or older to enter. IDs will be checked at the door.

Area high school students from Ellinwood, Great Bend, Solomon, Strafford, Larned and Hoisington came to 天涯社区官网 to get hands-on experience from art professionals and participate in a juried art exhibit Thursday, April 6.

This year the exhibit and workshop was sponsored by the 天涯社区官网 County Arts Council (BCAC).

天涯社区官网 art students will line the walls of the Shafer Art Gallery with their work during the 天涯社区官网 Student Art Exhibit juried art show 6-8 p.m. April 21. The show will run through May 12.

The reception will include an awards ceremony where cash awards will be given for each category. The awards were donated by The Credit Union of America in Great Bend, Karen and Dale Shaner, Don and Barbara Beahm, The Great Bend Tribune, Eagle Communications, Bob Feldt, Kent Weltmer and Maureen Leahy.

天涯社区官网鈥檚 Community Service Organization and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a 5K walk/run 8 a.m. Sunday, April 30. Registration will be听7:30 a.m. in the Fine Arts circle drive at 天涯社区官网. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Hope.

The course begins and ends at 天涯社区官网. There will be two groups: 16 and over and 15 and under. The top three finishers in each group will be awarded immediately following the race.

天涯社区官网 will be closed on Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17 for Easter break. 天涯社区官网's Center for Adult Education and Shafer Art Gallery will also be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume Tuesday, April 18.

The 天涯社区官网 Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in the Shafer Art Gallery. 鈥淪trictly Strings鈥, as the title implies, will only feature the stringed instruments.

The 12-piece orchestra is comprised of high school and college students and members of the 天涯社区官网 and Pawnee communities. The show will feature a wide selection of music from Mozart and Handel to the 鈥淔eather Theme鈥 from Forest Gump.

Like many post-secondary education institutions, 天涯社区官网 offers dual enrollment with high schools to give students a head start on college and dip their toes in the waters of higher education.

Home-schooled high schoolers Alyvia and Cherith Crawley of Fort Leavenworth dove in; head first.

Cherith, a senior, will have 29 college credit-hours when she finishes her current course load; Alyvia, a sophomore, will have 26.5.

天涯社区官网 student Zack Steffen, sophomore of Great Bend,听managed to acquire 32 credit-hours of college coursework before graduating high school through dual credit.

He then began pursuit of an associate of science degree with an emphasis in engineering and will graduate in May.

He plans to attend Wichita State University in the fall to study Biomedical Engineering, which he hopes will prepare him to contribute to the field of prosthetics and the use of technology in medicine.
