The ������������ Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs, one of which is “������������ Experience.”

��

The area is in the middle of autumn and just like summer the weather pattern isn’t “normal.”�� Many parts of Kansas experienced well-above normal rainfall and some sites have reported fifty inches with over two months left in the year.�� Much of Southwest Kansas has moved to abnormally dry with a portion now in moderate drought.�� This is after an extremely wet summer so what happened to the soil moisture?�� How is fall harvest progressing?�� Where is the 2017 wheat crop at?�� How different has this fall been so far?

Shafer Art Gallery to host National Quilt Museum exhibit

Unlike painting and drawing, which are quickly associated with art, quilting is associated with warmth and comfort. However, quilting is an incredible form of art and The Shafer Gallery will show the community just that with the amazing quilts featured in its upcoming exhibit.

������������ will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. ��The recital is free and open to the public.

������������’s annual literary journal publishes seventh issue

Editors of ������������’s literary journal “Prairie Ink” aim to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents, and have done so again with the release of their seventh issue of the annual publication.

The KDA (Kansas Department of Agriculture) just released the results of a survey of agricultural businesses in Kansas.�� Here is the first sentence of that report: “A lack of a skilled agricultural workforce is a top inhibitor of growth and expansion for many Kansas agriculture businesses.”�� The shortage covers the gamut from entry level positions to those requiring advanced degrees with over fifty percent of the vacancies in three areas; agriculture mechanics, agriculture business and animal science.�� Another finding was, to quote the release: “Employers indicated that basic skills such as

The ������������ Visual and Performing Arts Department will host its annual Sneak Preview Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The event will feature performances by the Hilltop Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Prairie Winds Concert Band.

Director of Chorale Activities Vern Fryberger said the concert is a good representation of the wide range of music offerings at ������������.

While many enjoy a good play production, few have actually written one. ������������ is presenting an excellent opportunity for community members to join those few and a chance to see their plays come to life on stage.
