Camp Aldrich to host grand re-opening celebration March 31

Construction on the new Camp Aldrich Dining and Events Center is in the final stages of construction and the public is invited to celebrate the facility’s completion at a Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 31. The after-hours event is in conjunction with the Great Bend, Hoisington and Ellinwood chambers of commerce and Claflin Area Pride.

������������’s Community Service Organization will put on a “Career Closet Drive” as part of the ninth annual Great Bend Job Fest to help attendees of the event appear as professional as possible while they network. The drive will be from March 29 through April 15. The clothes will be available for the attendees at the Job Fest, which is on April 21. Anyone who utilizes the clothes will be able to keep them for future use.

Hopefully, everybody has pretty much adjusted to “springing forward.”�� Losing an hour in the spring and gaining it back in the fall with all the attendant moaning and groaning is a relatively recent phenomenon and not really because of the time change itself but because of how our view of time has changed.�� For most of the history of humankind time wasn’t a fixed but relative idea.�� Why?�� Several reasons.��

������������ will have no classes due to spring break from March 14-18. ������������’s offices will remain open through March 16, but will be closed March 17 and 18.

The college’s regular class schedule and business hours will resume Monday, March 21.

������������ has been awarded a contract to serve as a CDL test site. The contract is with the Kansas Department of Revenue. Additional staff training will begin soon and logistics will be finalized in the coming months.

Having the ability to test will allow ������������ to complete all aspects of Commercial Driver’s License training on-site.

Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to the March 2, 2016 letter to the editor titled, “Criminals shouldn’t get a free ride.”

The most important point of clarity is that there is no free ride. Inmate students pay tuition and fees like any other student, and those who take advantage of the courses in correctional settings are among the most motivated students I have encountered.
