The ������������ Theatre Department will hold open auditions for its summer production of the comedy one-acts “The Proposal” and “The Bear” by Anton Chekhov from 4-6 p.m. June 12 and 13 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The Theatre Department is looking to cast four males and four females who are 25-60 year’s old. Those who wish to audition may show up during the allotted hours on either night. No preparation or experience is necessary.

Graduates from 10 colleges of the Fort Riley Education Services Consortium gathered Thursday afternoon to celebrate the end of a chapter in their educational journeys. Despite the spacious venue, a large conference center ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan, it was standing room only. And, the air was electric with the energy from the graduates and their families ready to hear their name and achievement announced from the podium.

Susanne Yarmer and her son, Justin White, did not expect to walk across the stage to accept their associate degrees on the same day, but their lives took a few turns and they celebrated the milestone together at ������������ on May 11.

Yarmer initially began her college education at ������������ right after high school, as many do, but transitioned from the role of student to mother and put her education on the backburner.

������������’s Center for Adult Education will soon begin its nine-week GED Preparation Class. Students must attend all orientation classes May 21-24, and the first day of class May 29. Failure to attend all five days will result in removal of the student from the program. The center is located at 1025 Main St. in Great Bend.

There is a one-time $65 fee for materials.��Once students have completed the preparation courses, they will be able to take the official GED test. The cost to take the GED test is $132.

First, more beneficial rainfall this week to go along with last week.�� Did the Drought Monitor reflect much change (remember this is as of Tuesday morning)?�� Well, the area of exceptional drought retreated somewhat southwest as did the extreme and severe drought areas.�� Or in plain English, things are “less bad” then they were allowing wheat to keep going and providing some optimism for corn/soybean producers.�� And there are rain chances for several days this week so keep your fingers crossed.

Carolina Temponi Goncalves of Brasilia, Brazil and Enrique Martinez Flores of San Salvador, El Salvador were named ������������’s 2018 Outstanding Graduates. Dean of Student Services Angie Maddy introduced them and presented their awards, after which they took the opportunity to address their fellow graduates during the college’s 48th commencement ceremony Friday.

The ������������ Foundation honored Larry and Kathy Schugart with the 2018 Distinguished Service Award during ������������’s 48th commencement Friday.������

The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1981 by the ������������ Foundation to recognize individuals who have shown genuine regard for, and have performed outstanding service to, ������������. The ������������ Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient from nominations received.

������������ will be closed Monday, May 28��for Memorial Day.��

The college is on summer hours effective May 14. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The college will be closed on Fridays through August 3.��
