Editors of 天涯社区官网鈥檚 annual literary journal 鈥淧rairie Ink鈥 aim to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents and have done so again with the release of the eighth publication.

The collection of fiction, poetry, drama and non-fiction was open to submissions from 天涯社区官网 students, employees, community members who live in 天涯社区官网鈥檚 seven-county service area, Fort Riley, Fort Leavenworth and Grandview Plaza outreach locations.

The 天涯社区官网 Theatre Department will present 鈥淎h, Wilderness!鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Fine Arts Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $6 at the door; students admitted free.

天涯社区官网 will offer citizenship classes beginning Nov. 7 at the Center for Adult Education, 1025 Main St. in Great Bend. A prerequisite Registration and Orientation session is November 7.听

The 10-week session meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 7-9 p.m. The classes are free, but the required book and supply fee is $65.

A wide range of local artists鈥 work will be on display at the Shafer Gallery as part of the 天涯社区官网 County Arts Council Friends and Acquaintances Art Festival from Sept. 29-Nov. 4. An opening night reception at 6 p.m. Sept. 29. The show is underwritten by the Bill J. McKown Memorial Endowment distributed by the Golden Belt Foundation.

Part I

Corn harvest is slowly ramping up, soybeans are turning color and dropping leaves, milo fields are all over the place and fields are being prepared for the 2018 wheat crop.听 Milo and wheat producers are considering potential insect and arachnid pest problems.听 We tend to only think of insects as a negative in food production and they certainly can be.听 However, let鈥檚 take a step back and consider the insects from a broader perspective.

Former 天涯社区官网 student Lindsey Rojas took first place at the Great Plains Students鈥 Psychology Convention at Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in the spring semester of 2017.

Rojas began taking classes at 天涯社区官网 in 2011, graduating in 2013 with an associate in science before transferring to Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU).

天涯社区官网 will offer transitioning Fort Sill Soldiers a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants.

The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from Oct. 16-27.
