Planting the Next Crop of Farmers

The official end of summer in Kansas is really the start of school.听 Most public schools are now in session and 天涯社区官网 started this past Wednesday.听 The next 鈥渃rop鈥 of students has started on the formal journey of becoming professionals in agriculture while some are in their sophomore year.听 It might be a bit of a stretch but let鈥檚 compare education and agriculture.

Each year, the 天涯社区官网 faculty and staff get to strut their artistic talents in the Shafer Art Gallery鈥檚 鈥淔acultyStaffFriendsAcquaintancesandSomeFolksWeHardlyKnow鈥 exhibit like professional artists, complete with a full-blown reception from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.听 The exhibit features a variety of works by Louise Fenn including paintings, collages and constructions.听 天涯社区官网 Ceramics Instructor Bill Forst will be featured with a display of recent ceramic work.

天涯社区官网鈥檚 seventh-annual Wounded Warrior Golf Scramble, which benefits wounded soldiers from Fort Riley, is set for Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration deadline is Aug. 29, 2015.

The Wounded Warrior Scramble is an opportunity to not only support our soldiers, but thank them for their dedicated service and sacrifice for our country.

Shotgun start is set for 10 a.m. at the Custer Hill Golf Course at Fort Riley. Standard four-man golf scramble rules apply.

Preparing for the 2016 Wheat Crop - Part I

The year in the title isn鈥檛 a typo.听 Even though it is only August 2nd, good producers are making their decisions for the 2016 wheat crop.听 Even though planting is more than a month away, many producers are already facing potential challenges, especially for those planning to plant wheat after summer crops.

The institution as a whole drew more than 4,300 full-time-equivalent (FTE) students in 2014-15, which is a 1.04 percent increase over last year, and a 47 percent increase since the growth trend began in 2007-08, according to the FTE data gathered at the close of the spring semester.听 Note: Figures subject to slight changes until data 鈥渇reeze鈥 date in August. This information is a reflection of the current outlook.
