天涯社区官网 Forensics team competes at Tulsa Community College

The 天涯社区官网 Debate and Forensics team鈥檚 season is in full swing.听 The team earned awards at a tournament at Hutchinson Community College Nov. 1-2 and a two-part debate and forensics tournament at Tulsa Community College Nov. 14-16.

天涯社区官网 will be closed for Thanksgiving break Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Nov. 28. The college will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Dec. 1.

鈥淭hese aren鈥檛 your grandmothers鈥 quilts,鈥 has become an unofficial tagline for the Shafer Art Gallery鈥檚 annual exhibit from the National Quilt Museum 鈥 and for good reason.听 The ornate designs and craftsmanship of the 18 quilts on display far exceed that of what most people likely think of when they hear the word 鈥渜uilt.鈥澨

The 天涯社区官网 Theatre Department will host open auditions for its spring musical production 鈥淕odspell,鈥 by Stephen Schwartz from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 2 and 3 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Those auditioning need to prepare one song from musical theatre and bring sheet music.听 An accompanist will be provided.

天涯社区官网 Theatre Instructor Erin Renard will direct the play and anyone aged 17-40 is encouraged to audition.听

天涯社区官网鈥檚 music department will present the timeless holiday musical classic 鈥淎 Christmas Carol鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 22 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The show is being directed by 天涯社区官网鈥檚 Director of Chorale Activities Vern Fryberger.听 He has participated in 46 musicals over a span of 35 years and has been planning this show since last summer after seeing this particular adaptation at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.

Each year, as part of the Theatre Program at 天涯社区官网, students are asked to take the reins and produce a show entirely by themselves.听 This year, theatre Majors Joy Conner and Maili Kee are co-directing 鈥淟ove, Lust & Lasagna,鈥 with showings at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 in the 天涯社区官网 Planetarium.

The production features two plays, 鈥淐aught in the Act鈥 and 鈥淥pposites Attract鈥 and both are by playwright Bruce Kane.听

Brenna Martin, senior piano major at Wichita State University, will give her senior piano recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel as part of the 天涯社区官网 Music Department鈥檚 Visiting Artist Series.

Martin is originally from St. John and took classes through 天涯社区官网 for two years in high school from 天涯社区官网 Piano Instructor Karole Erikson.

天涯社区官网 Theatre major and vocalist Maili Kee of Salina earned the right to sing with five Broadway stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel College鈥檚 Memorial Hall, 300 East 27th St. in Newton as part of Neil Berg鈥檚 鈥100 Years of Broadway鈥 show.听 Kee won a runner-up spot in Hesston-Bethel College鈥檚 鈥淪inging with the Broadway Stars鈥 contest by submitting a video of herself singing.

天涯社区官网鈥檚 music department will begin selling tickets to its production of 鈥淎 Christmas Carol,鈥 on Nov. 1.听 Tickets are $10.听 All seats are reserved and are available online at scrooge.bartonccc.edu.听 Any patron needing ticket assistance can call the box office at (620) 786-1150. Performances are at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 & 22 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.听听
